We need your help to #FreeBenandJerrys
“I’ve got this watermelon and an empty, unnamed pint”
It is absolutely crucial for Ben & Jerry’s to be able to use its platform to speak out for those who don’t have a voice. Speaking out against social injustice has been part of Ben & Jerry’s for nearly 50 years — but that voice has been repeatedly silenced by Unilever / Magnum on the issues that matter most.
Ben recently shared how Unilever / Magnum previously blocked Ben & Jerry’s from making a flavor in support of justice for the Palestinian people. That should not be controversial — and it’s why Ben is taking matters into his own hands and creating a flavor that the brand was barred from making.
Because now more than ever, the Palestinian people need us to lend our voices and support. Because while the ceasefire is a welcome step, there is much more work to do to rebuild and to bring Palestinians the peace, dignity, and right to self-determination that they deserve.
How you can help
As Ben said, we need your help to come up with the name and other ingredients for the watermelon flavor. Drop your ideas in the comments under Ben’s video here, tagging @Magnum, and they could be part of the final product
We need you to help Ben design the packaging too. Post your ideas on socials with the hashtags #FreeBenandJerrys and #JusticeForPalestine, tagging @yobencohen AND @Magnum, so they hear us loud and clear.
You have until November 11 to submit your entries. After that, a very familiar face and friend of the campaign will join Ben to reveal the winning name and package design.
What next?
The winning design will get printed and made, and the winning name will feature on the label. The winner will also get free Ben & Jerry’s FOR LIFE… if we successfully free the company from Unilever / Magnum.
If design isn’t your thing, just visit ‘Sign the letter’ to send a letter to Magnum’s CEO and board telling them that independence is the only way to protect Ben & Jerry’s values and voice. When you’ve sent it, share this post to your socials to tell others to do the same.
This is just the first in the new Ben’s Best series, where Ben will be creating new flavors from his test kitchen over the coming weeks to tackle Unilever / Magnum’s censorship on racial justice and political authoritarianism. Stay tuned for the next flavor.
